CS4TX provides three different involvement opportunities for various membership levels. Each group possess different responsibilities within the organization and should be considered when determining membership. Note that the Board of Directors of CS4TX has additional framework to nominate, elect, and/or appoint members to the board or public policy steering committee, regardless of membership level.
The “Board” is the governing body of the organization.
The Board is responsible for serving as leaders in the organization including, but not limited to:
determining mission and purpose;
supporting, evaluating, and selecting the executive director;
protecting assets and providing financial oversight;
ensuring legal and ethical integrity of the organization;
guiding the public policy priorities of the organization through participation in the steering committee;
appointing additional board and public policy steering committee members that are representative of the diversity of the CS4TX membership.
Board meetings will be regularly scheduled with consideration of existing commitments of board members.
The “Steering Committee” is the guiding force of the public policy involvement and priorities for the organization.
This committee, along with the board, is responsible for developing the CS4TX Legislative Agenda, which will be comprised of various bills, topics, budget amendments and/or riders, that will be supported or opposed by the organization.
The creation of a legislative agenda will also include the development of a framework to evaluate and authorize CS4TX involvement for additional, non-agenda items requiring legislative participation.
This includes:
bill support/opposition requests for members and/or nonmembers;
participation in info-sessions for legislators and legislative staff;
and more.
The Steering Committee will work closely with the Board and the Executive Director during and leading up to legislative sessions.
The “Community” is available to all members of CS4TX, regardless of membership level.
Community involvement entitles members to various updates from the Board, the Steering Committee, and the Executive Director pertaining to items on the CS4TX legislative agenda and/or additional legislative items of note.
Community members will be asked to participate in legislative items requiring member attention, including:
registering for/against legislation;
meeting with legislative offices about CS4TX priority items;
and more.
Community meetings will be called as needed during and leading up to legislative sessions.
